Step by step process–How to become a lawyer in the Supreme Court of India

Step1- High School

It’s mandatory for everyone to pass intermediate-high standard. However, it doesn’t matter what subjects you had in senior secondary high school. Any student from any stream whether it is science, art or commerce has the exposure to become a lawyer in Supreme Court.

What myth does most of the student have?

Most of the students have a myth about the percentage of marks. They think to be a lawyer in Supreme Court they need to secure an excellent percentage in law academics. But in reality, it is just a myth. There is a percentage criterion which you should pass.

45% is the threshold percentage set by various law universities. Therefore, you should be able to secure at least 45% in secondary school to get clear the criteria of admission in law school.

However, the division and percentage of marks can vary depending upon the colleges you are choosing to become a lawyer.

Step2- Law Schools Entrance Exam

To get admission to the most prestigious law schools, as a student you should prepare hard for the common law admission test. When you are strict towards your aim to become a lawyer, the most important thing you can do is to prepare for the CLAT exam. Best law colleges in India take admissions through CLAT exams.

Step3- Must have a degree of LLB

If you want to become a lawyer in any district, state or Supreme Court of India, you must have a degree of LLB from a well-recognized university.

To become a lawyer there are two different pathways, one is 5 years LLB integrated program, the second is 3 year LLB program.

Step 4 Internship of Supreme Court Law

During your college time, you can choose an internship program offered by different private and public law companies after the completion of semester exams. The most frequent time for law students to go for the internship is after the 8th semester.

Step 5 Supreme Court Advocate register

To know how to apply your academic knowledge and skills in the courtrooms, you require an Identity card that ensures you have the ability to practice law in the court. As per the Indian advocate act, 1961, an advocate should register his/her name in the Bar Council of India to get certified for practice in the court premises.

Step 6 To become Supreme Court Advocate Junior Assistant

After registering on the Bar Council of India, you can work as an assistant advocate under senior advocate of any High Court, or district court.

Step 7 To become a Supreme Court Advocate

For this remarkable achievement–you should pass the All India Bar Examination exam organized by the Bar Council of India. Once you pass the AIBE exam, you officially become a member of the Bar Council of India or a particular state.

Any lawyer who has the wish to become a part of the honourable Supreme Court of India needs to have some experience (atleast 5 years of practice in the Indian Court) in court legislation and litigation.
